floating fly lines by RmB on Wed, Jun 2
LAST YEAR I purchased Cortland 444 dt4f for my 3 wt. tfo rod. I very happy with the line except one thing; after 4 months use the line has already cracked. I clean the line after every second fishing outing; and apply line dressing. Now I do fish hard 4 to 6 times a week[GREAT TO BE RETIRED AT 50]. Also I have read this line is prone to cracking. I have already turned the line around but was wondering if someone may have had same problem or am I doing something to shorten the life of the line. Also if anyone has had better results with a different type line?

| I've had great luck with orvis lines and scientific lines are also fairly good. I would stay away from cortland I've had nothing but bad luck with them | |

| I've had Cortland 333 (WF4W)since early last year. No cracks, etc. I just have to repair a loop I put on the line (the wrapping gave out). |

| I think you just have a problem with this particular line. I have several 444 peach lines, and have had them all for several years and they don't show any signs of cracking. I'm only out 20-25 times a year though, and do fish three different ourfits depending on where I go, so they get rotated regularly and don't see the use that yours do. I'd talk with Cortland about it. | |
