Carp on the Fly by Brad Stalter on Tue, Apr 27
Hey anyone target carp on the fly? I was walking the erie canal over by the aquaduct in dewitt and saw a few monsters. I have also herd that people have caught them in nine mile but i have never seen them there. Just want to try some stuff besides trout. any thoughts appreciated.

| Yes they are a challenge to catch on a flyrod. Very skittsh it can be like stalking bonefish, many guys will target shallow water Carp as a practice fish before going after Bones. I have used beadheads, flies that look like berries, san juan worms that sort of thing. The pick up is very very sublte many times i try to watch the line for ANY movement or if I think the fish has picked up the fly I will set I miss alot of fish. And they are strong fighting fish and can get quite large. Good Luck and have fun. | |
